Urethane Hardness
ESCO Plastics’ urethane elastomers are available in different levels of hardness.
The firmness and rigidity of elastomers is measured by durometer – the ASTM standard used for measuring the hardness of plastic, rubber, and other non-metallic materials.
Durometer measurement scales range from 0 to 100 and represent the hardness between different materials.
A higher durometer elastomer is harder than a lower durometer elastomer:
10A – 50A: Very soft, best suited for shock absorption
50A – 80A: Soft, used for particle impingement applications
80A – 90A: Medium resilience used for abrasive applications due to the longevity of the material
90A – 95A: Hard, works best in impact and sliding types of abrasion applications
60D – 75D: Very hard, works well in bearing and bushing application
